I'm glad they were disciplined. Shows that racism still is alive and well and is not an invention of blowhards like Al Sharpton. They treated this man in a disrespectful manner and deserve to be disciplined. Even if this man was not who he was, it shows that ordinary black motorists are still often treated with suspicion and disrespect.
oh cops, when will you learn
when will we get the point where race is no longer an issue. we are all created the same. no one race is superior over another.
now gender on the other hand, men are better than women (kidding).
I wonder how the black commander was acting.
Isn't it illegal to drive while black? I'm pretty sure the white officer was justifies in pulling the guy over.
*justified, oooops
Unfortunately, this is very common. It's called "driving while black". Total racial profiling and totally unconstitutional. Fucking racist cops!
talk about not knowing who your boss is, oyyy
so busted
That article can be interpreted many ways. However, if you accept the basic statements of the full column, two things become apparent. First; the laws apply equally to all. The officers had the right to approach a tenanted vehicle that was illegally parked and inform the driver of that fact. Second; courtesy by officers to their fellow citizens should be expected. Certainly, that holds true if the person involved is a superior officer! If the officers were, indeed, needlessly rude and hostile in their conduct, they should be disciplined. That, alone, is enough. The racial element is completely hypothetical. This is what happens when race politics are allowed to take hold in a profession that should be strictly apolitical in its nature.
owned
Except that's how most cops treat you, regardless of race. I'm not about to read the article [don't feel like it, much], but if the fellow cop deserved it, then that's how it goes. But there is still race out there, obviously, I just wouldn't jump to racism everytime someone of color is involved.
oh burn!
It could have gotten really nasty if the Chief had been on a skateboard at the time....
*singsong voice* Somebody stepped on the bosses toes!
That's just sad, but at the same time...kind of funny cause you know
this whole incident was probably Karma coming back at that white
officer for any other 'profiling' he may have done.
Burn? Skateboards?! Karma?? Intellect and morality seem to have bottomed out on this site.
@mrcolorful -
He was acting Black while driving. It's happen to me more than twice. Luckily, I'm not only educated but informed as to how to deal with racist cops who come in all colors. I hope it happens to you then you will understand.
Live on Capitol Hill!
@STEVENPILL - were they ever present in the first place?
@StrongLetterI - I'm beginning to wonder! When Dan invited me to join this site, it seemed to be a great forum for debate on moral aspects of incidents that rarely garner much attention. Potentially, it is. Yet, I keep seeing these knee-jerk responses from the Twilight Zone! I don't mind being disagreed with. Like you, I'm sure, I'm more than willing to concede a valid point that I've overlooked. That's what debate is FOR. But it has to be a reasoned debate to be worthwhile. Otherwise, it's just a lot of diesel exhaust!
So now what, the commander thinks he's above the law.
