Why no child is safe from the sinister cult of emo
"Hannah was a happy 13-year-old until she became an 'emo' - part of a sinister teenage craze that romanticises death. Three months later she hanged herself. Here, her devastated mother tells other parents: No child is safe." Here is the link: Link

Well, I don't think being emo automatically leads to suicide... there are plenty of emo kids on Xanga, with razor blades in their profile pics and everything. I think they have a lot of fun being emo.
The United Kingdom is falling apart because of crappy American music.
MORE HARD DANCE NOW!
i think most kids do the "emo" thing because of the style of dress not because their emotional or depressed. However, I know from personal experience that a dress style can influence your life style. As a freshman in high school I dressed like a goth to make an ex mad, however, the more time I spent in that style the more it influenced everything about me. I know this may be an extreme case but I found myself doing satanic rituals, becoming very suicidal, and hating all aspects of God.
I was emo before the term emo came to be. For most it's just a lifestyle that speaks to them.
as an ex-emo, being labeled sucks! Thinking about Death and acknowledging it is looking at the duelality of Life. Ying Yang, dude.
@GhostBenjimon - No! Then then we'll just have reports of 'how my daughter died from LSD, the hard-dance drug.' It seems bad music leads to a continuos cycle of death.
I love My Chemical Romance.
I don't think "emo" = dead. kids are going to kill themselves. It comes with the whole 'homones out of whack' of being a teenager. It's sad, but it is just the way things are.
i don't think emo = suicidal. i think depression= suicidal. she was untreated. it has nothing to do with emo-ness. that's just how she chose to express it.
@danteCARAX - Better LSD than whizzz... god that stuff is nasty.
Parents: "Always looking for something else to blame."
Sir Theologian, I beg of you to never link to the Daily Mail ever again.
It's an embarressment to British media, with the most ridiculous ridiculous right-winged stories.
Check this out: http://www.qwghlm.co.uk/toys/dailymail/
Ugh. No, not emo. Emo stands for emotive hardcore, a genre of music. The description of ''emo'' in this article is a misconception, if emo stands for emotional then the whole human race is emo. It's our nature, in some way or another, to have feelings of emotion. Geez.
This girl was not "emo", she had issues and was suicidal. Too bad she couldn't get help, its a shame. :/
What is the world coming to? If you see your child going through the 5 stages of emo-ness. You BEAT then until they're normal again.
And Blink 182 is pop/punk rock. Not emo. I agree with Dante. This is ludicrous.
Hmm... I used to pretend to be "Emo" when I was younger, myself. And personally, I felt that I was heading towards selfdestruction. I'm actually glad that I'm out of it, because I ended up turning away some friends and family members, but people who know me, know that I've changed for the better. ANd I feel proud of myself. ^_^
I followed the link and noticed it led to a British site that said emo was created in America. If that's true, it's interesting. I'm not sure why I think it's interesting, it just is.
Hmm...Emo, Emu.
Well there are problems at home that no one knows about and then kids end up dead. Why? Because the parents never make time to talk to their kids. That girl's mother bought her the dark depressing clothing. Why was that not a "red flag" that day when the clothes were bought. I think I would notice more black items ending up in my laundry. I think I would notice the heavy metal music coming in my house. I would look at the family trash can for reciepts of unusual purchases that my kid would make.
TALK TO YOUR KIDS & GET OFF THE COMPUTER ALREADY!
@danteCARAX - that's his number one news source!
Dan, methinks you like pointing out the stupidity of the UK. because that's the only site that does it.
Why is it that every older generation deplores and fears the younger generation?
This sounds like scare tactics to me.....
@Don_Cauchi - because it has always been so.
Suicide is proof that hard physicalism is incorrect. More people, having a free will, kill themselves slowly with their lifestyle choices. In the 80s when I was in Jr High, sorry, Middle School, the hoods hung out at the 'pit' behind the lunchroom where they could smoke and dip freely with approbation from school officials. Should they have not been allowed to smoke at all on campus? Back in those days we hadn't a sheriff's deputy, metal detectors or chained doors. Society has become more secular and benumbed to sin ever so slowly. The major cause for this coarsening of society was cable television which began the acceptance of many a former social stigmas and taboos. And all this in the buckle of the Bible belt. I'm afraid outside of a religious revival, or a proper reeducation through a Western Philosophy more kids will devolve to the emo lifestyle. There is so much more to life that is opened up the a teenager's mind when they are exposed to the Great Ideas of the Western Wor
As sad as this story is, I really don't think her parents can blame the "emo craze" for their daughter's suicide.
Emo may have been a way for her to properly convey her feelings, but I hardly think its the cause of her death. She obviously had other problems that made her want to end her life.
And on a second note, emo isn't a cult. I don't know what this girl meant by "emo intiation ceremony." It just sounds like she was hanging out with a bad crowd.
She was cutting herself and her parents wonder why she hanged herself? The signs were right in front of them. :/
You know, most kids who are ACTUALLY emo don't even dress the part (& I mean emo as in have emotional problems or whatever). I know, because I was one of those kids & you would have thought I didn't have an emo thought in my head.. until I accidentally forgot to wear a jacket one day or something with long sleeves.
Those who try to dress the part are mainly doing it for attention. & the ones who aren't dressing that way just for attention- well, you can tell them apart because it is their whole way of life. They don't constantly do crazy stuff just to be recognized as an emo or shout about how they cut themselves every night.. they just act like it's them & whether anyone notices they don't really care.
At least thats how it is at my school. & we're pretty messed up anyway.
Honestly, the kid doesn't look so happy in the "before" picture, either.
And before one blames the emo subculture, I'd think about what kind of parent you are when your kid says "I feel like killing myself" and you blow them off. Maybe that sounds cruel, and I'm sure this woman will torture herself thinking about it for years to come, but when people say something like that you should always take it seriously.
